Canon end commercialization of SED flat-panel TVs before it even started

A project co-authored with Toshiba Corp back in 1999 and the commercialization of which have been delayed up until now has had to come to an end. Canon announced that they decided not to commercialize SED (surface-conduction electron-emitter) flat-panel TVs. They explained the reason as being the sharp drops in the prices of LCD and plasma panels having made it very difficult for them to compete. However, they are planning to offer SED panels for commercial use such as for medical equipment.
