THUMS Version 4: Toyota Motor’s New Virtual Human Model

Toyota Motor THUMS version 4

Toyota Motor Corp. (TMC) announced today advanced, Version 4 of their Human Model, the THUMS (Total HUman Model for Safety). This model has detailed models of the internal organs in addition to the skin, bones and brain of the previous model. Developed in collaboration with research institutes, it allows detailed analysis of injuries to bones, skin and now also to internal organs caused during the car collisions hence helping Toyota to develop and improve car safety devices such as seatbelts and airbags.

P.S. TMC had started to develop THUMS in 1997 in collaboration with Toyota Central R & D Labs. Inc and it was commercially launched in 2000. And Version 4 comes after 4 years of the launch of the previous model.
