iPad is SIM-locked to Softbank in Japan
As you know, in Japan all the mobile phones are locked to the service providers who sell them. Although not long time ago, there was talks about Japanese government reviewing the SIM-lock system, the system is well intact. What’s worse is that it has even afflicted the iPad 3G in Japan as it has been announced that iPad 3G will be SIM-locked exclusively to Softbank Mobile. They already started to accept orders as of last Monday (May 10) ahead of its launch on May 28.
This is actually striking news as it totally contradicts Steve Job’s statement saying that iPad 3G will be shipped unlocked to the International markets. So this is “exclusive” treatment to the consumers in Japan?
