Nintendo to outbeat Apple in the Mobile Gaming Arena with the 3DS?

Nintendo 3D S

Although still outnumbering in sales either Sony’s PlayStation 3 or Microsoft’s XBox 360, Nintendo suffered a decline in the sales of its consoles in 2009 financial year. It is generally attributed to the lower technology of the Nintendo machines but also the challenge posed by iPhone in the mobile gaming and its ever increasing popularity among the users. Hence Satoru Iwata, the President of Nintendo, declared Apple as “the enemy of the future”.

Things being as such, the upcoming portable game console, the Nintendo 3DS seems to be of pivotal importance to the company and they are apparently making sure to take into account such details as an optional 3-D function on the Nintendo 3DS making it possible to turn off the 3D and switch back to 2D upon concerns about imminent  eyesight problems in kids.

The thing that Nintendo can’t fight would be the price of games.

When you spend US$4.99 for an equivalent US$19.99 game and US$9.99 for a US$39.99 game, you can buy more games. That’s why my Nintendo DS sits while my iPod touch has new games, though some have been removed and remain on the computer for later.
