iPad and iPhone will credit to the slight shortage on NAND Flash demand in 2H’10

Steve Jobs iPad

DRAMeXchange, a global leading provider of market intelligence, in-depth analysis reports and consultant services on major electronics components, comes today with a quite interesting piece of news on how both iPad and the so called iPhone 4G will bring to its knees world wide supply of NAND Flash in 2H’10. Indeed DRAMeXchange expect the Apple will ship up to 40 million units of iPhone in 2010, around 9% of the worldwide NAND flash consumption, while they epxpect that within 2010 up to 8 million of iPad slod worldwide, giving around 3 more % of the worldwide NAND Flash consumption.
Strong from their past experience with Apple, DRAMeXchange speculate that the Cupertino based company Apple, will come forward with a new 64GB iPhone this June, creating with the already available iPad, a huge demand on a short period of time of NAND flash leading to a shortage of such memory for the whole industry.

Every year, Apple causes a shortage of flash memory.

What about the rest of the phones and music players? It seems that Android phones are already overtaking iPhone in many ways, why not flash memory usage?

yeah sounds a bit sensationalist, if the iPhone and iPad only account for 12% of demand (probably optimistic percentages). How would they cause a shortage?

Plus the iPad has not been selling as well as expected so Apple probably have excess stock.
