KYOCERA to acquire Sony’s TFT LCD Design & Manufacturing Facility

According to the agreement that Sony, its subsidiary Sony Mobile Display (SMD) and Kyocera reached, there will be a corporate split as Kyocera acquiring the TFT facilities of SMD in Yasu City, Shiga Prefecture, Japan as of June 1, 2010.
Kyocera already develops, manufactures and markets STN (passive) and TFT (active) LCDs via its Corporate Thin Film Components Group and the acquisition has been done with the goal of strengthening the group’s capacity to respond the growing demand for TFT LCD line of products worldwide.
