Apple succeeded to acquire the iPad Trademark from Fujitsu

History seems to repeat itself in a funny way…It had been tension between Apple and Cisco over the iPhone trademark before and yet again we had Apple and again another “i” pre-fixed product name causing some headache, the iPad. And this, only few weeks left to the launch…
The story goes as such: Fujitsu files an ownership application for the iPad trademark in 2003 for a point-of-sale (POS) 3.5 inch touchscreen wireless handheld device until April 2009 when it falls to “abandoned” status. Then they re-open the trademark application which gets published by USPTO for review in September 2009.
So comes the clash over the iPad trademark between Fujitsu and Apple. However, behind-the-doors deal must have been quite satisfactorily crafted that Apple managed to acquire the full rights to the on March 17th timely enough before the launch on April 3rd.
