Wireless LAN on the subway, but not on the platform

A lot of public transportation companies are scrambling to offer wireless LAN access on their platforms. In France, that would be a good thing, because commuters tend to spend quite some time there because of the frequent strikes. so WiFi on the platforms is cool, but on the subway, that’s even better. NTT collaborates with the Shutoken Shintoshi Tetsudou train/subway line to offer wireless LAN on their trains/subway movinf at 130km/h. They use MIMO (Multi Input Multi Output) AP’s (Access Points). The first line that will have this functionality is the 58km stretch between Akihabara and Tsukuba, and we’re eagerly awaiting the other lines. The service will not be free though.
