that sounds like a nice offer at first,

but when the tech guy at Apple opens your iPad, there will be damange. While they have specialized tools that can crack open these cases open, there will always be a mark somewhere. The iPad/iPhone/iPod cases were not designed to be opened in the first place, unfortunately.

      Archie,

This is exactly why it IS a nice offer. To quote: Apple will REPLACE your iPad. It does not say they will crack it open and replace the battery, they will replace the iPad!

PS: returned iPads are easily refurbished by replacing the battery and installing a new case – so no marks.

What if you have customized your iPad with a decal, expensive etching art, or invisibleShield protection? Or god forbid any customization that physically changed the iPad. I’m guessing they may call “Void Warranty” and refuse to replace anything.

Not to mention the issue with data privacy and backup.

They say that you should “be sure to back up your data before getting you iPad replaced”, but we’re talking service repairs here. What if my problem is that my iPad won’t power on, even when plugged into the computer? Any data that isn’t backed up will be lost.

If battery replacement is so simple why can’t we keep our existing devices?
