Iwatani: Hydrogen fuel-cell assisted bicycle with Lithium Ion Battery

Showcased at the booth of Iwatani Corp. at FC Expo 2010 (March 3-5, 2010) in Tokyo, this bicycle uses hydrogen as fuel. The hydrogen is stored in a cartridge as part of the polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) system which weighs 1.1 kg and is mounted above the rear tire of the bicycle. It provides an output voltage of 30-35 V which is reduced to 26 V to charge lithium ion battery.
Reportedly when the cartridge is full and the battery is fully-charged, the bicycle can travel about 45km.
Iwatani does not plan to commercialize it on the grounds that the power generated (60 W) it is low, yet.
