Sony to compete against iPhone/iPad/iTunes with PSP phone/PSP tablet/Sony Online Store?

This sure is the bombshell news of the day. According to the Wall Street Journal, on the one hand Sony Corp. is working on developing a smartphone in collaboration with Sony Ericsson which would be able to download PS games from Sony Online (gaming & media) Store and on the other hand, the hard work is directed towards the development of a hybrid device functioning like a netbook/e-reader/PSP. Right in this context, our news “iPhone platform more popular among game developers than DS and PSP” become a good reference point explaining this final strategy of Sony trying to come up with a smartphone with PSP capabilities.
The online store is expected to be launched in the US later this month while the new smartphones are planned to be launched later this year.
