Buffalo announced two 500 GB PS3-certified External Hard Drives

The new hard drives, the HD-AV500U2/SC and HD-CL500U2/SC are both compatible not only with PS3 but also with the upcoming TV Tuner and Video Recording PS-3 module, the so-called “Torne”.

The major difference between the two is that the first stands horizontal, has matt-finish and LED capacity indicator whereas the latter has matt finish, stands vertical and has no LED.

Buffalo announced the price for HD-AV500U2/SC as 14, 800 yen and for HD-CL500U2/SC as 11,800 yen. Both are planned to be launched on market in Japan in March 2010.

You can use any HDD with the PS3 as long is it is formated to FAT32. Also for the internal drive in SATA laptop drive will work.

I think buffalo is trying to get all of the people who wouldn’t know the difference and will buy a “PS3″ HDD. I guess it is easy to confuse since you have to buy a XBox HDD.
