Sony’s Digital Noise Cancelling Earbuds finally arrive in the US

Already introduced in Japan last year, the MDR-NC300D Earbuds offer 98.4% noise reduction through its Artificial Intelligence (AI) noise canceling feature which automatically selects the best mode depending on the outside environment. You are also provided with a controller to adjust volume, settings and monitor function that mutes the ear-buds to hear announcements etc. Furthermore, these ear-buds come with long battery life of 20 hours per AA battery to make things even better.

Last but definitely not the least is the great convenience Sony provides us by offering these ear-buds in 7 different sizes to have a perfect match with your ears.

And if you cannot wait for Februrary, you can still order them on GeekStuff4U.com‘s catalog

Hmm, I bought these Earbuds when they came out.
It’s a nice set, however, some annoying setbacks for me:

    - Battery life no where NEAR 20hrs. More like 10. Had to change them during a flight from Osaka–>Tokyo–>Amsterdam with a 1 hour stop in Tokyo. (Total flight time, 14hrs).

    - It does not have a sound pass-through function, so, battery empty == no more noise from the buds. The older analogue Sony ones, had audio pass-through so you could still enjoy sound without NC.

    - No manual setting on NC modes.

    - Does NOT filter 98.4% of ALL noise, just the monotonous sounds like trains and engines so you hear the JAL stewardess saying Sumimassen more clearly through your ear buds then ever.

    - All audio is digitised and then put through to your ears. Never mind recording in Lossless to our Personal Audio Device any more, the throughput sounds like 320k mp3.

    - Using an equaliser on your PAD ruins the throughput sound.

    - Your PAD had better have a pretty high volume output to get a decent volume dumped in your ear canal without having to have the NC300D at full volume.

Is this a bad set of kit? No, it’s not.
Does it do everything they say it does? No it doesn’t.
