LG to produce Crystalline Solar Cells and Solar Modules

Already in the solar business with their thin-film type solar cells, which in July 2009 LG announced to be the World’s most energy efficient (11.1 percent) in large-area (1.1 x 1.3 meter), LG just announced today to have made another step forward in the Solar Business with their latest investment in production lines in Gumi, South Korea to produce silicon-wafer based crystalline type solar cells.
According to LG, the line will have annual production of about half a million solar modules with total capacity of 120-megawatts equivalent of energy needs of 40,000 homes. This first line, which is scheduled to commence production next month will be followed by another one in 2011.
