BDA finalizes Blu-ray 3-D specifications, expect to enjoy 3D on your couch soon

Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) announced yesterday that they finalized the specifications of Blu-ray 3D discs. Accordingly, Multiview Video Coding (MVC) codec was chosen for encoding 3D videos which by the way will be viewed in Full HD 1080p resolution to each eye. What’s more, regardless of the type of display (LCD, Plasma or other trechnology) and the kind of 3D technology the display uses, they will all be able to deliver Blu-ray 3D content. Other good news is the possibility of playback of 2D discs in the coming 3D players and 2D playback of Blu-ray 3D discs on the current Blu-ray Disc players.

Ready to put a smile on your face? Here is what seems like your New Year’s gift from BDA: the specification has been designed in such a way that Blu-ray 3D discs are already compatible with your PS3!
