Futuristic Cooks on the Wheels, Meet the Cooky Robots

The so-called COOKY ROBOTS are the result of one of the research projects undertaken by JST’s (Japan Science and Technology Agency) ERATO (Exploratory Research for Advanced Technology) division . As you can see from the pictures and in the related video, the original thing about it is that it is wheeled robots doing the cooking work instead of some androids or robot arms that we are used to be offered. The user prepares the ingredients, labels them and pre-programs cooking time and temperature.

It looks nice and futuristic but to be honest, I can’t help thinking that it could be better if they were dealing with ‘the preparation of ingredients’ part as that is the real toil…not the cooking, itself.

Anyways, in case some of you may be interested, the full title of the project is “Cooking with Robots: Designing a Household System Working in Open Environments” and actually is said to be scheduled to appear at the 28th international Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, CHI2010, Atlanta, USA, April 10-15, 2010.
