OKI Cable and JAE hand in hand for industry’s first hybrid optic fiber cable

OKI Electric Cable and Japan Aviation Electronics Industry Limited have combined their expertise in “large-diameter H-PCF* optical fiber and Type PN connectors for factory automation (FA) and railway cars” to create industry’s first hybrid product: optical fiber cable with built-in connector. Usually there is a need to set up two separate systems, one for fiber optic and the other for power supply. However, from now, customers will have space- and pocket-friendly solution with this two-in-one product. According to the developers, this new product is expected to be especially welcome to be used as monitors for automotive industry and monitoring cameras.

Before it will be available in worldwide markets from April 2010, it is announced to be exhibited at OKI Electric Cable’s booth Nr.89 at ITE 2009(International Technical Exhibition on Image Technology and Equipment) which will be held in Yokohama from December 2-4.

Large-diameter H-PCF: H-PCF (Hard Plastic Clad Fiber) is an optical fiber. It uses fluorocarbon polymers with minimal bending for the clad part and quartz glass for the core part. Compared with silica-based optical fiber (SM optical fiber, GI optical fiber), it has high connectivity with the light receptor part since its core diameter can be as large as 200μm, enabling low-cost and simplified system development.

Type PN connector: This is a two-core fiber connector regulated under the IEC61754-16. It is commonly used for bi-transmission for PCF or POF (plastic optical fiber) connectors.
