Drobo S and Drobo Elite, New Smart Storage Solutions by Data Robotics

Both supporting Windows, Mac and Linux, Drobo S and Drobo Elite come equipped with new brilliant features. Different from the classic 4 bay Drobo, Drobo S comes with 5 bays, has fast eSata socket and an enhanced Firewire 800 performance alongside with the USB 2.0 port. The marvelous option of switching between single- and dual-drive redundancy allows for a better data protection through providing you with a margin of failure of up to Two hard drives instead of usual One.

On the other hand, announced to be rather targeting at Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), the Drobo Elite boasts Multiple-Host Connectivity feature (up to 16 hosts), manages up to 255 x 16TB volumes thanks to its Smart Volume Management Technology, has room for up to 8 HDD and sports 2 GB Ethernet sockets. Finally, just like its Drabo S companion, it also offers switch option between single- or dual-drive redundancy.

OK – this is Akihabara news, right?

These are great backup tools, but so far I’ve not found these here in Japan.

If you know of a local source, let us know. Or if you know of a decent, comparable Japanese product – let’s hear it.
