Lancer Link’s New LAN and USB HDMI Dongle

At the end of the month Lancer Link Japan will release an USB or LAN HDMI dongle, the Network HD Converter The NHC-168 when connected to a network (100Mbps) or router via USB and to AV equipment it lets a PC plugged into the same network display both video (1680 x 1050) and audio on any equipment plugged via HDMI.

Imagine you have a PC too faraway from an HD center… just plug the NHC-168 to the TV,PDP, projector or AV amp… as well as plugging it to a network via an Ethernet or USB Lan converter and voila… The PC can now forward what’s displayed on its screen to a TV.

The NHC-168 can even remotely control your PC if you plug in a mouse and keyboard.

  • Speed

It should be 1Gbps only, so 1080p would be possible.

  • Signal

The 1680×1050 resolution would mean it is a non-HDCP HDMI compliant device. Such devices limit bluray playback to this resolution but doesn’t always mean that 1920×1080 (1080p) isn’t possible.

Very curious device. I wonder if the USB is 2.0 and yes, a gigabit ethernet would seem a better choice for video playback.

  • fh

Somehow I doubt this is intended for use with Blu-ray, as I imagine it would break HDCP protocol.

The ¥40,000 asking price is also a bit much (although it seems to be on par with similar devices from manus like Gefen). For that money, you can get a standalone set-top Blu-ray player, and have money leftover to buy a few titles.
