Elecom’s New nanoSSD and SSD

This morning Elecom Japan released a new series of SSDs, two nanoSSD, available with both 8GB and 16GB that is plugged directly to a motherboard via SATA with decent reading and writing speeds, 75MB/s (read) and 30MB/s (write), at only 8g and a 25×6.5×39mm size.

As regular 2.5” model is available with both 64GB and 128GB. Unfortunately Elecom didn’t provide any writing and reading speeds in their press release on these two models.

These two items will be available in Japan within weeks and can be ordered online via GeekStuff4U.com (in a couple of days).

Freaking adorable haha

This is awesome!! any ideas on the pricing??

It would be cool if it can support eSATA. That way we can start replacing usb devices with eSATA.

My country is don’t have this product. It’s a new technology for me.

These modules aren’t exactly new. They’ve been available in the Mini-ITX market for a couple years now:

Of course more producers means prices might come down.

The obstacle with an eSATA version is that the eSATA spec in its current form does not supply power to the connected device, so you would need to connect it to a power source, probably a USB plug anyway.

In the time it would take eSATA to be revised to supply power, USB 3 will be out, which will provide over 400MB/s throughput (far outpacing any SSDs available currently, as well as SATA2 speeds).
