PhotoFast CR-7000 SDHC to CF Converter, 5D MK II Approved… Well Almost

Just a quick ultra mega lighting fast review… let’s call it a hands on shall we? You know I own both a GH1 and 5D MK II and unfortunately both support different kinds of memory cards. SDHC for the GH1 and CF for the 5D MK II… I decided for some reason to drop the CF once and for choose the SDHC… However, my old NEXTO CF only supports CF… So I decided to invest in a SDHC to CF converter to use my several 4GB and 16GB SDHC in pretty much every device I own and to backup my SDHC with my NEXTO CF ND2500…
The ideal choice for me was the PhotoFast CR-7000, since it supports SD, MMC and SDHC… If backing-up a 16GB SDHC into my ND2500 wasn’t a problem with the CR-7000, I has my doubts about using this baby with my 5D MK II… As you’ll see in the video below the CR-7000 supports the 5D MK II’s continuous burst shooting mode quite well … I’m impressed. However if you own a 5D MK II and want to use the CR-7000 with an SDHC card to shoot video, I’m sorry to tell you the CR-7000 isn’t fast enough… Your 5D MK II buffer will get full in less than five seconds and will stop recording immediately. Of course if you own a Class 6 or 10 SDHC this may be different.
What to say? I’m pretty happy with the CR-7000. I wish it would have worked better with my Class 2 and Class 4 SDHC cards while recording video, but still, the CR-7000 is worth the investment. I’m pretty sure not many people will use it for shooting videos.
