Sega Private Show 2009

Today we were invited by Sega to the annual Sega Private Show 2009 where new arcade games are exhibited. Threre really wasn’t anything new or exciting, take a look at the picture below. The hall was almost empty, and there were only few interesting games.

First we saw WORLD CLUB Champion Football Intercontinental Clubs 2008-2009 (or WCCF) that will be released at the end of the year. WCCF is a card game, the player is kind of a football manager who trains a team (power, shooting, passing, tactics…) and plays matches against opponents over an Internet network. There’s a card to keep data (the Club Card or IC Card), and player cards that correspond to a specific team member. You create a team by collecting game cards (up to 16 cards make up a squad).

Once your team is formed, place your cards on a table (symbolizing a football field) and create formations and tactics. Through a camera positioned under the table the CPU recognizes the cards displaying data on a screen. If you move your defender to the top of the table, this player will become a striker… The objective is, of course, to win a football match through an international league. All of your data, training, and match history is stored on your Club Card. During the football match you can manage your team (formation…). This game isn’t really new, it was originally launched in 2002 and this is the 8th season. One game will cost 300 Yen, but before that you’ll have to get a Club Card for 1000 Yen.

Then we had the Shining Force Cross game, an action-RPG game played with a touch screen. Introduced last April, it will be available in December. The most interesting part of the game features a touch screen for managing items and character skills… Very interesting, but there’s a lack of accuracy… This issue could be annoying, particularly if your fighting against the final boss, and you need to get a health energy potion… The games is nice, you will be able to play with up to four players and join forces. Like WCCF, you save game data on an IC card.

Sega also introduced a Tetris arcade game playable with up to two players. Unfortunately we don’t have further information, and couldn’t take any pictures since it’s still in development. What we do know is two can play and make combos.

We also saw Galileo Factory, a medal game introduced last year… Nothing new, just some minor improvements…
