Akihabara Shot with a Canon Kiss X3 (500D or Rebel T1i)

We just received the Canon Kiss X3 (500D or Rebel T1i), and wanted to share this quick video of Akihabara taken yesterday with the beast on my way back to office from a Sanyo press conference… This Video was taken in 720/30p then converted in DivX 720/p30 using “insane” mode… The result is far from being what I expected from a company who made the 5D MK II. Way better than the Nikon D5000. but YEARS behind Panasonic’s GH1 in terms of video…

The lens used when shooting this video was our good old 24-105mm 1:4 L IS M. A review is coming soon.

“we” seem to be male, right? Please look at 0:25 in the video – some (unconscoius?) move towards the closeup… I understand, why. As nearly every man does.

    Hi there!!!

I bought this camera in akihabara 12 days ago and im impressed with it !

I expected a lot less of its video capabilities, and after triying the Panasonic in Yodobashi i have to say its not as good but enough for someone just wanting to get short films of stuff like yours in the streets of akiba for example…and this you show is after compressing the image…looking at the real footage is much more impressive than this divx….ive only seen problemes with scenes when there is a lot of movement or lightning conditions changing very fast…

Its an impressive camera, light, really fast focusing, powerfull and complete…bought it for 110.000 Yen with both the 18-55 and the 55-250 and the camera bag, for me a very good deal coming from a Nikon D80..

Cheers from an almost arrived from Tokio spaniard!

Don’t wanna ask for too much, but I will…
If you please Daimaou, could you explain a little bit further on why the video on 500D was less impressive than GH1?

I’m kinda between both… I’ll probably end up choosing the 500D because of picture quality and because I already own a 450D, but I’m still curious to know how better GH1 video is.
    :D
