Au KDDI Sum 09: Mobile Hi-Vision Cam, the First 720p Mobile Phone Hands-on

Here’s the first 3G camera phones with 720/30p video recording capability, the Mobile Hi-Vision Cam WOOO from Hitachi, sold through AU by the KDDI network.

Using the 3GPP2 video codec, this phone is surprisingly capable of recording in 720p. Franted you won’t get stunningly crisp video like with an average professional HD video camera, but you’ll get something superior to Flip HD. The Video Mode is perfect for simple shots with slow moving objects and people, but when panning like a maniac or recording fast moving objects you’ll get blurry video with some compression artifacts but… Just cool down a second and don’t forget we’re talking about a mobile phone, nothing else…

Indeed impressive!

Other specs include a 5Mpix camera sensor; a 1Seg TV tuner, Lismo Video, Wireless Music, and can give you up to 4h of HD Video recording on a 8GB microSD card in HL mode.
Video can be watch directly on a TV thanks to a HDMI cable connected to your TV and Mobile phone.

PS: Apparently, the Omnia HD offers the 720p Video Mode

Below is a video of the beast in action!
