Akihabara News Now in CDN Beta Testing

Hi everyone, just to let you know that we are working on some major improvements on Akihabara News, and the WP ads we posted yesterday is among these improvements, by the way sorry if I did not have the time yet to reply to all of you… Anyway there will be some huge changes in the near future on Akiba and among them is a MAJOR improvements in the speed of the entire website are planned for the coming weeks…

Thanks to a generous company, since yesterday Akihabara News has been testing our future CDN implementation… What’s this all about? CDN stands for Content Delivery Nnetwork (Wikipedia: CDN).

Simply put, CDN provides the capacity to host files in different servers across the world to drastically speed things up things end users (picture below)… The Akihabara News server is in the USA, meaning that people in Asian and Europe will access files less rapidly than those in the US… But thanks to CDN, Akihabara News pictures are hosted in 15 countries with 15 servers, providing faster loading times to people around the world, also CDN improves caching, speeding things up even more.

Since yesterday all news, pictures, and reviews (soon) have been using CDN Technology. In the future EVERY picture on Akihabara News, NihonCar.com, Manualgear.com, etc, will utilize CDN Technology.

What do you think? Do you see any improvements in image loading time at Akihabara News?

62% Hell Yes !
4% Nope, Worse !
23% The Same
11% What pictures?

I never noticed any lag, Maybe because I live in the US. I always thought the servers were in Japan since that is where Akihabara is.

In Japan it will cost me 3 to 4 time the price I am paying to get the same server in the USA, and in the USA I have unlimited Bandwidth while in Japan it will cost even more !

  • theDollarKing

Yes, I always wonder why it is so ridiculously expensive to get a server in Japan. Even for spam filters you have to pay extra while this is just a free service in Germany or US.

I never felt much lag on akihabaranews. Probable what it is use to load in 0.5seconds it loads now in 0.25 seconds.

Anyway, how much it cost a CDN? I might get a server in USA with CDN if it’s cheaper than getting a server in Japan!

  • http://www.akihabaranews.com Daimaou

a Server in the USA is 2 to 3 time cheaper than in Japan with a Server 2 time more powerful…

Hey Daimaou, you might want to have a look at what my company does in the CDN area. We might have a solution that would help you scale and improve performance a lot, at moderate cost
Just ping me if you need some info.
    Cheers,

    Greg
