i've had a chinese HD pmp and it does not play HD. for me, HD is h.264/AVC encoded video with high res and the current chinese chipsets don't support this.. real player is obviously popular in china so RMVB is best supported.

i havent seen any chinese player supporting blu-ray rips in MKV format with h.264/AVC codec which is HD in my eyes..

In general, the current generation of PMP is not good enough to display HD contents. The content world is moving solidly into 1080p arena, So it is logical to expect PMPs to playback 1080P on both PMP's screen in full HD resolution and also be able to play back all HD formats on HDMI HDTV. This means PMPs must include a remote control for use when they are connect to the HDMI TV. Additionally, PMP is for mobile usage, i.e to be able to hold addition personal HD contents such as full resolution megapixel photos & full HD video. For me, an acceptable screen size is 4x6 " @ 720P minimum. Otherwise, good luck to the manufacturers.

@kei

"720P = 1280x720 Progressive scan"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/720p

It might well play a video that is 720p format, but unless the screen has a resolution of at least 1280x720. It will not be playing the video at 720p but at the lower resolution.

The same with the archos 5. It might well play the video, but it can not physically display it as 720p because the screen resolution is not high enough. (unless the plugin that you are talking about is a higher resolution screen).

The max they both actually can display is 480p. Which is standard Def
