Asus Eee PC E1004DN… Don’t Call Me a Notebook
I’m still struggling with this netbook concept, I admit that owning a compact sized underpowered and cheap notebook could attract many of us. Today netbooks are more similar to the average notebook, but still with the lack of a proper CPU, like the new Asus Eee PC E1004DN, its 10” LCD, 1.45Kg, Atom N280, Intel, GMA 4500, its ridiculously slow 120GB HDD at 4200rpm, Bluetooth, Wifi…. an ODD (Optical Disk Drive) for a price around $590 USD…
Yeah, you know what? I’d rather get a Core 2 Duo Notebook a little bit bulkier than this Eee PC for the exact same price and get a real computer rather than an underpowered ATOM piece of plastic.

Taipei, Taiwan, March 28, 2009 – Versatile, Intuitive and Elegant. These are the qualities found in the Eee PC™ 1004DN, an ultra-portable mobile internet device which provides mobile computing flexibility through intuitive interfaces and input methods while shrouded in an avant garde style. The Eee PC™ 1004DN is the first in the Eee PC™ range to feature a Super-Multi optical disc drive, enabling users to read and write optical discs for convenient data back-ups. A power-efficient Express Card slot provides expansion capabilities, along with plug-and-play compatibility and auto-configuration access. An ergonomic keyboard provides users with a more comfortable typing experience—even for prolonged periods—and the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine (SHE) technology lengthens users’ entertainment and computing experiences by providing them with extended battery life while on-the-go.

Interesting. You are the first one that knows about the performance of the platform and the harddisk without ever testing it.
Seems like this is becoming a common thing for the “old pages” who tries to get some “blogging influence” into their content.
Nothing that i expected from Akihabaranews, especially all these misspellings and errors like the 10.4 inch display, which is complete bullshit
Netbooks are popular because their cheap that’s it.
But some companies forget that like Asus with their never ending line of new models and start pushing into laptop territory which is what the E1004DN a “deluxe netbook” is doing, of course anyone with a bit of sense would buy a proper computer for that price.
Yeah they are pretty crap hardware wise but they work well enough for a certain group of people which is why the sell (proper netbooks not the Asus above).
Sacha_P… We tested many different Netbooks, and I prefer a fully loaded Device for my usage that it, especially when these Netooks now are for some as expensive as a cheap Notebook (here in Japan at least)
Oh I get it now! You are a Netbook Fanboy I did not check you WebPage… Sorry if I offended your beloved Netbook, but anyone is entitled to her/his option, you like/love netbooks, great for you! But as far as I am concerned I am not crazy about them at all, even if I was impressed by the Sotec running Windows 7… Once Again I prefer a No Name Core 2 Duo for the same price as an Atom powered PC.
