If they are going to market this outside Japan,
it will need to be able to read more formats like .prc and / or pdb / lit.

This way all western books can be read too.

I also won’t buy it untill they offer backlit options for reading during the evening.

Yes, you probably will be able to load .avi files, but will you be happy with 0.3frame/sec framerate? It will be slide show, not video. And I see it will be _slow_ slideshow So, they must reduce price a half, improve speed a half and i will replase my e-paper book LBook with this fine color model.

Colors at least, but really is expensive, I would buy for $500~600 not more. I found it very very slow too.

40h at that condition is very unfair and unreal, I would want to know the normal operation, also the standby estimative.

About colors, it should be 262.144 not 260.000, pretty odd. On resolution too, 768×1024 and not 1014 (typos?).

How is the quality? I would use 1st to read manga, a lot of them, and books of course.
