Samsung’s WB500, World’s First Ultra-wide Angle, 10x Compact Camera

Note sure about Samsung’s statement from their Korean press release, but it looks like their goal here is bringing a point and shoot to the DSLR world.

The WB500 is a nice 10Mpix camera with a 24mm wide angle, 10x optical zoom, H.264 720p video recording, image stabilizer… For a size of 10.5×6.14×3.65cm and 219g.

Price is set at around 398,000 Won (€225).

I’m close to getting a Lumix LX3. It would be interesting to see how the Samsung performs, especially in low light situations.

There are several reviews already on the Web with full size sample.
This is not at all comparable to the LX3 which is a much better camera in terms of image quality (faster lens larger sensor …) but does not have the reach (almost no zoom).
The Samsung is more a TZ5 competitor, but from the full size samples and the reviews out there, the quality is visibly lower than the TZ5, especially as ISO get over 200.
