Sanyo Goes HD Crazy with Five New Xacti! Live from the Sanyo HQ

We’re live from the Sanyo HQ in UENO, where we had the pleasure of discovering for a private session the entire line-up of this year’s new Xacti and a small surprise with the horizontal Xacti series!

Full HD Sanyo Xacti !
Behold the new and amazingly powerful HD2000 and its horizontal brother the FH1. Both feature an 8Mpix CENSOR for still pictures and a 5.31MPix resolution for video. The all mighty HD2000 and FH1 supports SDHC cards up to 32GB with a little plus for the FH1 and its 8GB of internal memory.  Both shoot video at 1920×1080/60p (24MBps) and have a 10x optical zoom. ISO ranges from 50 to 3200.  A first for the Xacti family on these high-end models is a Reverse Sequential Shot function, and hi-speed video shot up to 600fps on both models.

Waterproof Goes HD thanks to the DMX-CA9 and DMX-WH1 (Horizontal)
We have been waiting for this a very long time, and finally Sanyo made it with not one but two HD 720/30p waterproof cameras. Compatible with IPX8 certification, the DMX-CA9 can be submersed to a maximum of 1.5m while the DMX-WH1 can go up to 3m… Both cameras are ideal for watersports and wintersport.   They feature 43MB of internal memory, support SDHC cards up to 32GB, while the DMX-CA9 has only a 5x optical zoom, the WH1 has a 30x.

Here’s the slick and ultra sexy DMX-CG10…. Replacing the HD800, the CG10 is 2.5% slimmer than its older brother and 10% lighter for a total at only 167cc and 171g. This camera has a 8Mpix censor for still pictures, and 5.31 for videos.

What else can we say? First Sanyo released a new horizontal camcorder, mainly designed for the US market… I still prefer the vertical style but hey, if these new models help Sanyo get more customers I’m complaining.  The camera features the face chaser function on both movie and stills, and Sanyo also GREATLY improved the image stabilization system and present a wide range of accessories and lenses…

As for the video quality output of these camera, we’re waiting for our test sample to let you know!

Can you guys do a test against a Panasonic LX3 at 720P? It would be interesting to compare the video quality of a high end camera that does 720P video against a video camera that does pictures and see who does better video at 720P.

Then compare the camera feature of one of the Sanyos to the LX3.

It is a waist of time comparing the lx3, it is ccd based and the vertical smear(purple streaks or vertical image break-up) is so bad in low light dimly lit situations that it cannot be expected to be anything of a stills camera only.

Cmos whilst suffering from wobble do at least avoid the issue of smear, something knowbody has been able to avoid in consumer digicams, especially hd. Therefore the comparison is futile,, add in no stereo mics etc and you quickly relaise that the xactis are still very good at what they do, portable hd.

Won’t HD2000 and FH1 have optical image stabilizer? What a pity! Having HD1000 I can tell the absence of OIS is my biggest complaint about this great little camera.

I think it would be interesting. Comparing a very good camera that also takes video and a portable video camera that takes pictures. They both have there focus, but I’d be interested in which one’s secondary focus is better.

I’m sure many are thinking of buying either a camera with video capability or a video camera that takes pictures. I think this comparison would give people the positive points and the negative points of each.

Also, I’ve seen low light LX3 HD video on veoh and they’re pretty good. I see the smearing when there is harsh focused light but I was surprised that I could live with it, seeing that the LX3 is very portable and has a really good lens.
