Taiwan Will Also Get the Foma F905i

NTT DoCoMo and Fujitsu today announced they’re working on a localization of the Japanese Foma F905i for Taiwan.

F905i:

Has a large screen called “Width Motion”, a “Super-Fine 3.2″ IPS” monitor with 480×864 resolution. The camera is a 3.2MPx with CMOS sensor; other than the fingerprint system, the rest of the specifications are classic.
108x50x21mm and 138 grams. Autonomy from 200 minutes (GSM 3G) to 505 hours.

Tokyo, January 14, 2009 — Fujitsu Limited and NTT DOCOMO, INC. announced today that they have localized a mobile phone for the Taiwanese market based on the FOMA™ F905i model sold in Japan. The new handset was officially launched under the model name F905i in Taiwan today by Far EasTone Telecommunications Co., Ltd.

This first mobile phone co-developed by Fujitsu and NTT DOCOMO for a market outside of Japan allows users to view and input the Traditional Chinese character set, the standard writing system in Taiwan, enabling access to Far EasTone Telecommunications’s i-mode™ mobile Internet service in the local language (see attachment).

The F905i offers advanced features such as 3.2-inch full-wide VGA two-position display, 3.2-megapixel camera and Fujitsu’s proprietary technologies for exceptionally clear sound and voice reproduction at 30% slower speed for easy comprehension.

Far EasTone Telecommunications, in which NTT DOCOMO has an equity stake, is a strategic partner of NTT DOCOMO and the exclusive operator of i-mode services in Taiwan. The company is a member of the Conexus Mobile Alliance, which Asia-Pacific mobile operators including NTT DOCOMO formed to enhance international roaming and corporate mobile services.

Sweet! Something to look forward to but it’s also a bitter reminder of how behind the times North American telecoms are compared to Japan, South Korea and now Taiwan.
