Sony Vaio P Hands-on and Live from the Sony Building!

Here are 59 pictures of Sony’s latest bombshell, their first high-end Netbook.
Specs :
Vista Home Premium
Atom Z520 @ 1.33GHz or with a Z530 (1.6GHz) / Z540 (1.86GHz)
2GB of RAM
60GB of HDD or up to 128GB of SSD
8” UWXGA Screen with a stunning 1600×768 resolution
WiFi B/G/N
a 1.3Mpix Camera Module
WAN and GPS (in Option)
for just 639g and 245 x 19.8 x 120 mm
Our first impression is pretty good, as usual the overall design is stunning, well built, and the keyboard is fully useable. We felt a solid Netbook in our hands, but we had a hard time with the stick which seems to have a mind of its own…
Performance wise we had some trouble watching Dailymotion HD Video, however, Sony’s staff took on this problem and showed us a nice Full HD trailer running smoothly on the Vaio P with Windows Media Player (they had to close all open software). As for boot time… not up to expectations, Vista is still a resource hog and installing 7 on this beast may be the best thing to do.
Give us a little more time to release our video of this shiny new Vaio P… Meanwhile if you are interested in this device, you can pre-order it online here

Thanks for the review, it looks impressive.
How is the build quality, does it feel a solid netbook or more rather plastically?
Very nice, thx for the pics
It has a great feel to it. Very solid. For me the screen is too small, but HD playback was impressive. Certianly the bees knees for portability though.
i hate how the space bar in general is getting smaller… computer makers need to remove that windows start key and lengthen the space bar!
@gb:
You can get the English keyboard which does away with the various Japanese-input keys.
Can’t wait to get my hands on one of these. Word to the wise: Sony Japan is offering the P with up to 1.86ghz (in addition to 1.60ghz and 1.33ghz), while Sony UK has just 1.60/1.33ghz options, and Sony US has only 1.33ghz. These are just for the pre-order models, so it could change once Configure-to-order options come out, but those that want to pull the trigger early might do well to import one from Japan.
i think it’s too late.
I wasn’t quite sure what the ports were on the left and right side. My guess is that on the left there is a USB and audio out port? But what was on the right? Any other ports to speak of?
@fh
The windows start key is on a large majority of keyboards. I’m looking at my Logitech keyboard and it has it. Bought it in Los Angeles at Office Depot.
I remember the good ole days when the space bar took up almost all of the bottom portion of the keyboard and there was no Windows start button.
