Leadtek Japan Announces a Delay of Their SpursEngine Card, the WinFast PxVC1100

Although announced here on Akihabara News last September, the WinFast PxVC1100 has yet to be the first SpursEngine Card released Toshiba’s SpursEngine Hit Leadtek Image and Video Processing Card. (More Info on the SpursEngin here).

It was scheduled to be released in Japan this Friday, but you’ll have to wait another week to get your dirty hands on this beast… No biggy, but if you were planning on sleeping all night in front of your favorite Akihabara store this Thursday, we may have saved you the inconvenience of waiting for nothing.

While an interesting tech curiosity its not going to have much use.

Media playback including HD formats are easily handed by GPU’s now even CPU software decoders can do it too without any difficulty.

Might be useful to a handful of people looking to make apps for linux on PS3.

As Cell/Spursengine was designed for 3D work Toshiba should see about GP-GPU support as Windows is about to standardize on GP-GPU so if they can support directx computer shaders it may gain some traction with the GP-GPU community which is what Cell/spurs is closer too/would have competed against.
