The question is: Does it have a transreflective screen? In my opinion, this was the most important feature of the R500 (as well as the more recent R600)

A transreflective screen has the ability to turn the backlight completely off and work in reflective mode. This enables great readability in direct sunlight (similar to e-paper) and much improved battery life. In indoor/dark environments you turn the backlight on, and the screen works in normal transmissive mode like any other LCD.

Unfortunately this feature is extremely rare in consumer laptops, and I’ve only ever seen it on Toshiba R500, R600 and the OLPC XO-1.
