Toshiba Announces the Fall Avaibility of Their New 32GB NAND

Yesterday Toshiba unveiled their new 32GB NAND for PMPs, mobile phones, and other devices where large storage is necessary.

Our new flash memory features 8 4GB NAND flash chips built with 43-nanometer process technology.

The Japanese manufacturer stated they will start producing the new chip this fall.

    Yes ladies and gentlemen, we are indeed looking at the end of the hard disk drive (well, in a few years anyway).

    What is interesting is that Toshiba is steering customers away from raw NAND FLASH in favor of eMMC NAND FLASH which is Embedded Multimedia Card NAND FLASH for embedded products like a PMP/mp4 player, etc… eMMC NAND FLASH is basically a raw NAND FLASH die on a chip with a MMC controller die all in the same package. This has the advantage of time to market for developers (believe me, it makes a world of difference for the coders) and allows for much more simpler integration than the raw NAND FLASH (less code space memory and less data RAM memory required to use it).
