I bought one of these Buffalo 1Seg devices because it bundled the antenna extension that connects to your wall (my apartment had zero reception). The software is awful. It records the incoming video as untagged MPEG-2 Transport Streams; No other video player (including vlc, ffmpeg, mplayer, etc.) could open the videos, because they’re missing things like bitrate and resolution.

Moreover, you can’t even open the program without the tuner inserted into the computer. This means that you can’t even watch recorded shows unless you have the tuner connected and powered-on. I made the mistake of leaving my tuner with a friend when I came back to the US, so now I’m locked out of my own recorded content!
