DVICO TViX HD M-6500A

Rhaaa! Gimme! Gimme! Here’s the latest wonder from Divco! TViX HD M-6500A, the ultimate DivX box that EVERY GEEK should own (including me)!

Just released last Friday in Korea, our little player has the new Sigma SMP8635 processor allowing our DivX box to support most available video codecs . Of course DivX, Xvid and so on, but also the H.264, the MKV and AVC-HD! Finally I won’t have to convert my MKV files in WMV HD in order to watch them directly on my AQUOS LCD.

Since good news never travels alone, our M-6500A has HDMI 1.3a port, supports SATA HDD up to 1TB, can be used as a NAS with copy/move function from any external HDD or on any network HDD devices (you no longer need a PC!), has Gigabit Ethernet connectivity and optional Wifi!

Divco’s new wonder of will soon be mine!

But what about you?

    Dvico TViX HD M6500A features:

    1. overheats due to poor thermal design: no heatsink on the Sigma chip!

    2. very loud with fan set to high: trying to prevent overheating…

    3. USB port safety resistors burn out, if you attach it to a computer with power on

    4. firmware is immature and can crash the whole box even on normal playback

    Otherwise quite nice box

A very nice weight for any door in the world indeed.

For All Tvix haters – do you know any other media player with MKV support on the market right now??? Yes, its running hot, yes the software hasn’t been fully polished out, but since there aren’t alternatives stfu.

Yet to see what Popcorn hour will be…

This does look like a great device, putting the problems aside. It’s media center menu looks cool. However, at $400 plus the price of a HDD this doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense in my opinion. You could build a mini itx box running linux that you can update anytime and play any format out there…for less or about the same money (and it’ll have more features). The convenience of this device is however nice and I’d get one to have in my living room if the price was lower. Nice gadget nonetheless, I hope they fix the firmware soon.
