A New USB to DVI Dongle with AERO Interface Support

If you wish to use a second monitor with your PC but don’t want to invest in a second graphics card, here comes I-O Data’s solution: the “USB-RGB-D”, a USB to DVI dongle.

With this product you’ll be able to add another screen with a resolution up to 1680×1050 (that’s WSXGA+). On the bright side let’s say it will display the Windows VISTA “Aero” interface, on the dark one it doesn’t support HDCP, Open GL or Direct 3D.

Price is set around 95€, now you know.

Funny enough it costs 95 euros and it’s supposed to be a backup for an extra card, seeing the price of low-grade 3d cards, and the lack of OpenGL/d3d support of this one.

Well maybe for laptop users or something like that I guess.

The only reason I can think of to choose this over a videocard is to hook it up to a laptop. But then you’d have a small and a big display.
The Aero feature thing is probably a typical akihabaranews appraisal.
I wonder if there are any XP or OS X drivers.

Hey ! Don’t shoot the messenger ! Not my fault if I-O Data put the Vista Aero feature up-front ! But this product do work wiht XP and unfortunately NOT with MAC…. I would love to get something like this for my Mini…

I think I\’d prefer getting a DualHead2Go or TripleHead2Go from Matrox Graphics Inc. The hardware from Matrox allows you to connect multiple monitors to the same output of your video card. The (only) downside compare to this hardware is if your video card does not support the \”Aero Interface\”, the Matrox hardware will not allow you either since it uses your video card\’s features.
