Hands-on with the New Sony Alpha 350 and 200

This morning our talented photographer David went to the launch event of the Sony Alpha 350 (14.2Mpix) and 200 (10Mpix). We’ve already talked about these two new DLSRs this week, more info is here: Sony Alpha A300 and 350, Officialy Official!

It’s interesting to note that in Japan the Alpha 300 will be called the 200, but this version will not include the LiveView (like on the 300 in the US).

Here’s David’s first impressions of both models. He was pretty impressed by the 350 and the integration of LiveView mode with AF, a major hit compared with Canon (no AF in the Canon LiveView). The ability of rotating the LCD screen, and ISO3200 (YEAH!) are big pluses. On the down side David felt the 350 was a bit bulky, but this wasn’t really a big deal.

As for the 200 (300 in The US), David was not stunned by this device, this is an entry level 350 without LiveView, screen rotation, and so on.

Now we are waiting for a sample 350 in order to test the beast and its really promising 24-70mm F2.8 lens. A great camera which provides Sony with a deadly weapon in its fight against Canon and Nikon.
