Softbank 922SH: The Japanese Vision of the Nokia Communicator

For most of you guys not living here, Japanese phones look cool and are in a way… yes they’re cool, but they almost ALL look the same (I personally drool over the iPHONE…but no 3G version yet, damn you Steve Jobs!). 80% of the time you get a clamshell, and I’m starting to get bored with that.

Luckily for us, we have Softbank and his young minded CEO. He is leading his company in a new direction by offering devices that the dinosaur DoCoMo (NTT) and its rival AU (KDDI) won’t dare to consider.

For instance, the quite interesting Softbank 922SH (By Sharp). A kind of Nokia Communicator device which features a 3.5” LCD ASV display (with a resolution of 480×854), a 1Seg Digital TV Tuner, a 2.1Mpix Camera, microSDHC card support, Bluetooth, HSDPA, at a size of 56x116x17mm at 132g.

From specs anywhere I cannot understand if it’s a Windows Mobile device or not….I’ve seen a youtube video where it seems to run vito smart navigator….but WM version (5, 6, 6.1, professional or smartphone?) isn’t quoted anywhere!

  • YamaNeko

as I know it’s not WM. But it’s not Symbian or LiMo Linux (on their sites there is no info). Nice phone ! I’d like to have it, but I’m not Japanese
