DivX and WMV for the PS3 !
Good news for PS3 owners with the brand new 2.10 firmware!
This one finally makes it DivX and WMV compatible, whether you play it from HDD or network (DLNA)! Unfortunately, the DivX 3.11 are NOT supported, same goes for the DRM WMV, and files over 2GB.
The BluRay profile goes up to 1.1.
The Microsoft Xbox 360 allowed DivX and Avi recently too, through the latest Xbox LIVE dashboard update.

It’s nice that they added it but it is only the most basic implementation of DivX that is supported none of the advanced features like GMC or packed bit streams or even HD DivX works which incidentally the Xbox 360 can all play.
Lucky for me I have both so I’m not stuck but it would be nice if they improved compatibility & at least match the Xbox.
That’s not true – DivX HD is supported, I tried it today morning.
Well that’s interesting as all my sample HD DivX clips refused to play (6 in total), I’ll make a few more encodes with different settings and try again.
If you find the correct settings please post them here !
I also didn’t have any trouble playing back some Xvid and WMV HD trailers that I have. I was able to play them right off my USB external HDD without a hitch. It looked great on my 90-inch FP set-up.
