Toyota presents the robots of the future! Hi-Res Video and Photos

The uses and functionalities of robots are constantly growing in many areas from industrial to domestic needs; with this in mind, Toyota R&D has been working hard on new robots that they kindly presented to us. (sorry for the crap quality of the video, I had to take photos at the same time)

The first robot is destined to be used in logistics; it is capable of moving around without touching anything, it has the ability to follow people who might need his services, and to grab objects with an amazing precision. As an example, we had it signing us an autograph!

The second robot is an evolution of the trumpet and violin player that was presented some time ago; again it was demonstrating how much precision the engineers managed to put into its robotic hands. It can also move on its own.

Last but not least is a robot called Mobiro; it was designed to help the elderly, and anybody having difficulties in walking. It features a system of suspensions inspired by the automotive industry which guarantees optimum comfort. Mobiro will be used as soon as 2008 in the Tokyo Disney theme park.

This is only the tip of the iceberg; Toyota has many other projects currently being developed and tested, especially in the medical department.

Simply amazing! The violin robot (that is if it is actually playing) is probably one of the most impressive pieces of tech I’ve seen! Great post!

This brings electric violin to a whole new level! Perhaps some of these robots could play second fiddle to Laurie Anderson and Jean-Luc Ponty. But can these robots give a good processor/chipset-felt hug without messing up your clothes and hair ?

Violin robot has the most impressive tech but definitely most unimpressive music. Music is more than just playing the score.

Is Toyota kidding? Have you seen the hands of the violin player?Common! Honda Asimo is light years above this crap stuff! Better make only cars Toyota.
