The Sony PCM-D1 is dead; Long live the PCM-D50!
Sony had a great Digital Voice recorder, the PCM-D1, with 4GB of internal memory, and this morning SONY unveiled the 2nd generation of this PCM recorder, with the PCM-D50. While the basic design of this recorder is basically unchanged, the recording quality has been improved, and now exceeds the DAT recording quality, with a Linear PCM 96kHz 24 bit.
The 2nd big change on this PCM-D50, is that now you can change the orientation of the 2 internal microphones for better recording; finally, while we still have 4GB of internal memory, SONY worked very hard on improving the battery lifespan of the PMC-D50, and it can record up to 24h with only 4 AA batteries.
