Nintendo Presents New Wii Remote Jacket–for Free!

Nintendo just announced in Japan that it will start packaging the Wii game consoles from October in Japan with Wii remote controllers covered with a special silicon filled “cushion” around it. This is in answer to high demand from consumers that have complained the controller is a little to small to grip comfortably and for those who keep dropping their controllers and banging them on other people and the wall.

The jacket can also be received free if you already have a Wii and live in Japan. Check back for updates as I check to see if the jacket will be made available in other markets.

*Update*
The jacket is going to be available in other markets as well. They have a form that you can fill out if you live in the US/CAN here:

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/jacket/jacketrequest.jsp

As of now, no other country sites seemed to have it available yet. However, as this is seen as an important answer to customer needs, I am sure it will find its way to other markets.

Remember the key word is FREE!

I have 3rd party ones, but never really liked them. In fact I left the main wiimote I use naked. The reason I don’t like the 3rd party ones is because the holes for most of the buttons are too close to the buttons. That and the thickness of the jacket make pressing the A, – and + buttons and especially the Power button and home buttons very awkward and irritating. The 1 and 2 buttons don’t really suffer this problem because the buttons themselves are raised higher, same with the dpad.

In looking at Nintendo’s new jackets, it looks like they realized this as a problem and made the exposed sections much wider. Looks like these will feel much better than the 3rd party ones.

    Already ordered 4.

    Thanks Nintendo!
