Samsung Shows Off A Host of New Products

Samsung has officially announced a slew of products including a third-generation Blu-ray disc player, 22/24-inch widescreen monitors, 1080p Plasma HDTVs, and 3D-ready DLP sets.

The new Samsung monitors, dubbed 245BW ($550) and 226CW ($380) feature either a 22- or 24-inch widescreen with a 1920 x 1200 resolution, 5-millisecond response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio (3000:1 dynamic contrast), and 400 cd/m² of brightness. The 22-inch 226CW sports a 1680 x 1050 resolution, 300 cd/m² brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio and a 2 ms response time.

The third-generation Blu-Ray players include the BD-P1400 and the BD-P2400. The P1400 sports Samsung’s proprietary de-interlacing technology and is powered by the company’s HQV (Hollywood Quality Video) image processor. Both players feature native 1080p playback and upscale old-fashioned DVDs to 1080p with HDMI. Besides HDMI, both devices feature component, S-Video, and composite outputs. The BD-P1400 will be available in September for $550 and the BD-P2400 will hit stores in October for $650.

Samsung’s new 94-series plasmas offer 1080p display and 3 CEC-equipped HDMI ports. Besides that, the sets sport Wi-Fi connectivity for streaming 1080i video to the set from wireless players. The 94-series also includes a 15,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 18-bit color processing, ATSC / clear QAM tuners, and USB ports. The 50-inch version will retail for $3600, while the 58-inch version will go for $5300 and come out in the next few months.
