Sony Bravia HDTVs for the Blind?

In a recent article here on Akihabara News, Daimaou told you about all of those great new Sony Bravia HDTVs hitting later this year. In conjunction with those HDTVs, Sony has officially announced an ad campaign that explains how Bravias can be enjoyed by the blind.

According to a Sony Vice President, “The entire Sony Bravia television range now provides access to Audio Description (AD) as standard which, in combination with a commitment to raise awareness of AD, aims to increase the number of programmes, broadcasters and television manufacturers that offer the service.”

So how does it work? Audio Description (AD) is an additional narrative soundtrack for blind or partially sighted people. During gaps in dialog, a voice explains visual plot points, which enable the visually impaired to get a better feel for what is going on during the show.

From now on, all Sony Bravia TVs will include Integrated Digital Television (IDTV), and have access to AD without the need for an additional decoder.

ahhh, that makes much more sense…the narration part i mean. at first, i thought it might have been something much more advanced, lol. that’s cool though, as long as it helps.
