You cannot, this device is a Windows Mobile® 6 Professional Edition, and MS did not provide anyway to change languages, the X02HT however you can since it is running Windows Mobile® 6 Standard Edition. I know that sounds crazy, but the Windows Mobile® 6 Standard Edition is actually coming from the "Smartphone" series from MS and on these devices Microsoft (MS) allowed the possibility to manufacturers to add several languages... the X02HT in Japan comes with JAPANESE and ENGLISH. the X01T a "PocketPC" Series does not.

MS included for Arabic countries the support of the Arabic languages, as well as in China for Chinese on their English OS for some "PocketPC" but in Japan they never did it.

To make it short, you have to find an English ROM for this device, "Cook it" to make is installable on the X01T, pray and "Voila". The only drawback you will loose all Data setting and won't be able to use it for internet.

My conclusion, get an Android Phone or an iPhone is you want to have several languages. MS never understood that, maybe people would want to change the language pack on their OS (Desktop or Mobile) and I do not think they will even implement it on Windows 7 Mobile...

Re keyboard unlock problem with the X02HT, maybe also the problem ElPresidente, Lemon-basher, Tokyo is/was having. I also locked the keyboard (hold z) and had no indication either from the manual (Japanese) nor from Softbank (they didn't know!) how to unlock it as the screen was black.
Here's how I did it: remove the battery and power cord, replace the battery and reboot. The screen worked for me then, but the device was still locked so I pressed the top left softkey and "*" (star/asterisk) as instructed (two keys, FN+z) and presto, it was unlocked.

I have been testing the X02HT for a couple of days now : and I am extremely dissatisfied with it. The Keyboard is inconvenient and has a tendency to lock itself in \"function\" mode (note that I have been unable to unlock it and that HTC could not help either) ; MS Office mobile applications do not work correctly, there is no touch-screen, etc.

Only positive points : it is very light and it has both English and Japanese versions.

But on the whole, the X01HT is much, much better than the X02HT.

PART 2
Does anyone know if the X01T will have English?
Also heard the version of the X01HT available in Japan was gutted of many of its best functions (which are available on the same phone in other countries) by Softbank. Don't know if that's to make it more palatable to/compatible with the SAKOKU mobile phone market or not (Can't say as I blame the Chinese for blocking Japanese phones in their market. It serves them right). Frustrating situation to say the least.
Any help and/or empathy would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

PART 1
QUESTION: I'm a softbank customer and just discovered the X01HT, and wanted to get it but Softbank is pushing foreign customers away from it, as it doesn't have any English. Instead they are pushing the X02HT on the foreign customers, because it will have English. I don't really like the X02HT, because the screeen and keyboard are completely different (I like the tuck away type). So now I'm happy to hear that this new X01T will come out to replace the X01HT, but I'm afraid they're going to dick the gaijin customer around again by not providing English on that one either.
