“HOTTO Raisu” how to make hot rice with cold water

It is at TSUKUBA (Ibaraki prefecture) that a company made the demonstration of their HOT RICE (HOTTO RAISU phonetically in Japanese) which simply is some rice prepared in such a way that it can be “cooked” even with cold water.
I do not have the complete details about the mechanism (I believe it is some sort of chemical reaction…) but this solution, despite being relatively expensive, can be ideal in the case of natural disasters for example, when the power goes down and is inaccessible for some hours.

If you’re as interested as I was when I read this, simply follow the link at the bottom of the news…the only thing is…as a French Green Space Pig I’d have preferred a “Gratin Dauphinois” or “Couscous Merguez” but hey, I guess it’s only a beginning!
