New Ultrastar HDD by Hitachi

Three is the number of new Ultrastar HDD announced by Hitachi today. Built with high quality and reliability in mind these products should be available between April and June.

We start with the Ultrastar 15K300, 300GB @ 15.000rpm in a 3.5 inches body for this one. It comes equipped with various systems such as the RVS (Rotational Vibration Safeguard) and TFC (Thermal Fly-height Control) to prevent vibration and heat damage.
300GB is the max you can get from the Ultrastar 15K series but 73 and 147GB versions are also available, all feature the same 16MB (cache) and 1441MBps (transfer) + 35dB of “noise” (idle) and a weight of 745g.

Second on the list is the Ultrastar C10K147 which, as you guessed, is a 147GB HDD @ 10.000rpm and 2.5 inches. Of course it also features “Hitachi Goodies” like TFC, Adaptive Format and End-to-End data protection system. As a laptop HDD it was built for low consumption and performance. A 73GB is also available. 16MB, 1057MBps, 227g and 29dB for both!

Last but not least the Ultrastar A7K1000 with, in a 700g box, 500, 750 or 1000GB (3.5 inches) and a bunch of systems to insure its reliability because you really wouldn’t want to lose that much GB ! 32MB for the cache and 1070MBps.
