[CEATEC 2012] Hands-on with Panasonic AX2 new Windows 8 Hybrid laptop
Ok I admit it, I always has been a huge fan of Panasonic Let’s Note line-up and this despite their rather unique and unsophisticated design. However I have to admit that I am rather unimpressed by Panasonic’s new AX2. Don’t get me wrong I like the overall look of the AX2, like other model this Ultrabook is well build and sturdy, but, and yes there is but I am not a huge fan of their design choice when it comes to Panasonic understanding of an Hybrid Laptop. As you can see on the picture below, the AX2 comes with a screen than can be folded to your computer’s back and turn this nice little Ultrabook as nice 11.6″ tablet. Now the problem that we came across here is by folding the screen to your computer’s back will unfortunately turn its keyboard visible to all and become your tablet you back cover. Of course Panasonic made sure that your keyboard will be locked each time your are using the AX2 as a tablet, but we must admit that we did not feel comfortable holding the AX2 this way and we were quite upset of what will happen to our keyboard after hours of hours of normal abuse folded in this position and turned into your computer new back.
Despite this unique design flaw, at least for us, the AX2 is like any other Let’s Note Ultrabook from Panasonic, a nice and powerful device that will be sold in Japan in different falvors including a selection of Core i7 / i5 CPUs and the choice between a 128 or 256GB SSD
